Let's go to the slit eyes ...

One last time> Kia Ora < !!!

The time on the Cook Islands was beautifully simple, but all has come to an end only the Wurscht two and so we flew on 10 February back to New Zealand in Auckland everyday ...;)

We were soon behind us and we set off to explore the North Island with its volcanoes, hot springs and great Surfstraenden.

First we walk to Coromandel Peninsula, a rugged peninsula of rocks with ancient Pohutukawa trees, unspoiled scenery and stunning natural spectacles ...
We sent our poor by Van bumpy and very windy streets to the stunning Cathedral Cove, a centuries by the sea shaped sandstone formations, which can be interpreted as a church door.

The "gravel-road meanders deeper into the hilly landscape and ended in a picturesque fishing village, its attraction as a magnet for tourists.
We heard from many travelers on this trip, but never really believed it and when we arrived at the famous beach, we could not believe our eyes: hundreds of people, young and old tuemmelten to lying, crawling and laughing in a bathing suit (it was quite cold at the moment) and equipped with shovels in the sand and dug holes from which boiling hot water!
were built right pelvic systems with different temperatures for where everyone was there. We lay very lazy in an already-made nest and built our pool even further for our enjoyment. Now and then we had to cool off in the sea, if too much from the boiling hot water in our pool was just unbelievable.

After this event, we were totally thrilled by the hot springs that bubble spread over the entire North Island, and planned our route to further this unique Hot-Water-bodies, which led us in the Maori stronghold of Rotorua.
These thermally active area was settled very early by Maoris that the hot water use for cooking (in the Maori villages even today!) And your Haeser built on the warm ground, for protection against the cold of winter.
was therefore the culture of the locals get very good for us is now a tourist attraction number 1
We looked at one of the Maori villages, learned how Birds and other animals in the hot steam can be steamed and were allowed to attend a Haka, the terrifying war dance of the strong men. Be sure to gaze ...

The weather was quite cold and rainy, so we were the sources in handy ...
were of course all over the city, which was overshadowed by nasty and rotten egg smell, available swimming pools, we made ourselves, but on the search for a source in nature and found another spectacle, which the Hot Water Beach, almost even surpassed!
a divinely warm creek meanders a few miles through the bush with waterfalls and large pools where you could swim great.

was also among the Maoris, the secret agency known and so we had a very familial afternoon.

But suddenly our mood changed abruptly, because when we went back to our car, we found it empty and, with broken doors ....
Our passports, our money, July's clothing, Complete, MP3 ... it all away! could

The police of course does not help us further and that was for us complete the journey in New Zealand. The mood was at zero and we went (luckily the car was still there :-) now back to Auckland for our baby, the only valuable to sell what we have had and to get our new passports.

The Pechstraehne was fortunately not for long, because we sold our "buddy" for the same price we paid to a Czech couple the next day.

This unexpected Zeitluecke until departure for Singapore, we rented "Senior", a very leisurely small cars, and were even more spectacular volcano in the center of the island and explore the idea of New Zealand feed up a little.

We visited other fine hot springs, exploring a huge Hoehlenlayrinth, whose ceiling was lit by thousands of fireflies and saw finally, the elusive national animal, the Kiwi. Because the wingless, blind and intimate Kiwi active only at night, we could not take any pictures, but here is a copy in large so you can make you a picture:

We passed also a great surfing beach , where Julie finally was able to ride the waves and Michi swung to a boogie board.

The road to the volcano area led by the beautiful Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake, and the same city had to offer. We saw the mighty Huka Falls, the most impressive in NZ and about the ethereal "Craters of the Moon", another thermal area with smoking and steaming craters, boiling geysers Schlammtuempeln and correct.

The weather finally cleared up, the sun shone again as hard as we knew it and begin the incredible hike around the Tongariro volcano could! The
brutally overcrowded trail (it probably waited a few more for good weather) climbed to the top of the still active volcano and we were rewarded with spectacular views of lakes tuerkiese, red crater and the surrounding volcanoes. Now we can quite imagine why Peter Jackson just this mountain for Mordor and his breathing Fire Mountain chose ... it was missing was Frodo and his ring!

The land of the Kiwis is wonderful to see the
we now distinct and clear.
We are definitely back,
with more money and even more luck ...;-)
